Towards a Promising Tomorrow: Celebrating Inclusivity, Heritage, and Community Engagement

In July 2017, an air of fulfillment and gratitude filled the atmosphere as we celebrated receiving two prestigious awards: the ‘Friend of The Arts‘ and the ‘4th Enabling Employers‘ accolades. These honors, dear to our hearts, serve as a testament to the dedication of our team and the unwavering support of our partners and community. More importantly, they remind us of our mission—to steer towards fostering a more inclusive society and empower our community to contribute meaningfully to our nation-building efforts.

Embracing Inclusivity Through the Singapore Food Festival
One of our core beliefs is that inclusivity should be at the heart of every community celebration. With this in mind, we took the initiative to infuse elements of inclusivity into the 2017 Singapore Food Festival (SFF), ensuring that nobody would be left out in the celebration of our local food culture.

Over two eventful weekends, we organised collaborative cooking workshops called ‘U-Heart Masak Masak.’ These workshops aimed to engage people from all walks of life, fostering a sense of togetherness and shared appreciation for our rich culinary heritage.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our supporting partners who made this initiative possible. Village Hotel Katong, Katong Kitchen, East Manhattan, Song-Cho, NTUC (Think Tank), the People’s Association, the Singapore Kindness Movement, and SgEatWithUs joined hands with us to create an inclusive culinary experience that would leave a lasting impact.

Community Spirit in Action
None of this would have been possible without the dedication and support of our participating chefs and volunteers. Their generosity of time and spirit ensured that our beneficiaries, who participated in the ‘U-Heart Masak Masak’ event, had an unforgettable experience. These selfless acts of service demonstrate the power of community spirit in action, and we are immensely grateful for their contributions.

Preserving Heritage Through the Heritage Town Festival
As we celebrate inclusivity, we also strive to preserve our rich heritage, which forms the very essence of Singapore’s cultural tapestry. The Heritage Town Festival, organised by Kim Choo, is a testament to this dedication.

Our goal is to create an enduring legacy of cultural appreciation and awareness for the Nanyang heritage. At Kim Choo’s, we are committed to ensuring that the unique pleasures of our heritage remain distinctly Singaporean for generations to come.

The festival, situated in the heart of Katong and Joo Chiat, brings together a series of activities that showcase the beauty and diversity of our heritage. Through traditional cuisine, arts, and cultural performances, we aim to transport visitors to a bygone era and kindle a deeper appreciation for our roots.

Inviting You to Share in the Celebration
As we reflect on the past month filled with gratitude and achievements, we look forward to the future with hope and determination. We invite you to join us again next year for another exciting series of activities within the heart of Katong and Joo Chiat. Together, we can continue to celebrate inclusivity, preserve our heritage, and engage our community in meaningful ways.

With the support of our partners, volunteers, and the community, we will continue to sail towards a promising tomorrow—a tomorrow where inclusivity, heritage, and community engagement are at the forefront of our endeavours.
